How self-adaption can influence the tribological behavior of sputtered coatings

Topic of LectureHow self-adaption can influence the tribological behavior of sputtered coatings

LecturerDr. (Prof.) Albano Augusto Cavaleiro Rodrigues de Carvalho

Time of Lecture:Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Location of Lecture:State Key Laboratory A403

AbstractThe report aims to provide an overview on the research performed with sputtered coatings. Such coatings were synthesized with the objective of reducing the friction at high temperature via self-adaptation of the coating while still providing a high level of wear resistance. The report focuses on aspects regarding the synthesis, structure and properties of these coatings and also includes a discussion on possible future developments and further improvements of the coating design.

Description of LecturerDr. Albano graduated from the University of Coimbra. He is member of the Portuguese Institute of Materials, the American Society of Mechanical Engineering and the Royal Society of Chemistry. He is now a professor of the University of Coimbra in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Material Engineering, head of “Surface Modification Unit” in “IPN - Instituto Pedro Nunes” (Institute of Interface between the University and Industry with an Enterprises Incubator), head of the research team of the Mechanical Engineering Center of the University of Coimbra, vice-director (area of research centers and projects) of FCTUC, and head of the Laboratory LED & Mat of IPN, etc. Dr. Albano engages in materials and surface engineering, structure transformation, and deposition and characterization of thin films, as well as tribology made in such aspects as original contribution. He has been offered by the Portuguese National Institute with multiple projects. He has participated in more than 120 domestic and international conference activities and published about 250 literatures in SCI.
