Abstract:
Nicklas group has focused on the development of new catalytic methods using abundant metal catalysis (e.g., Fe, Cu, Ni), and main group elements (e.g., In, Al). The research has been directed towards the synthesis of various amine derivatives and heterocycles. In the first part of the talk, our findings on the radical trifluoromethylation of nitrosoarenes will be presented. The reaction takes place under mild conditions using the Langlois reagent, and provides access to trifluoromethylated hydroxyl amines. Another family of radical reactions has been developed based on the homolytic cleavage of the N-O bond of oxime esters. In our group, we have focused on the metal-catalyzed N-O bond cleavage, followed by intramolecular coupling reactions. The iminyl radical resulting from the homolytic N-O bond cleavage can be transposed into carbon-centered radicals through 1,3-hydrogen atom transfer, cyclization with a pendant alkene, or via ring-opening of cyclic oxime esters, to obtain functionalized heterocycles and nitrile derivatives.Furthermore, our findings on the Ni-catalyzed 1,2-aminoarylation of oxime ester-tethered alkenes with boronic acids will be presented. The last part of the talk concerns indium-catalyzed annulation reaction based on alkyne activation, and related studies.
