From Oct. 17th to 19th, the 2017 SPE Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition (APOGCE) and SPE Asia Pacific Regional Student Paper Contest was held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Li Mei, PhD candidate from SWPU, won the first place of PhD level of this contest.
6 delegates from SWPU, including Li Xiaogang, associate professor in School of Petroleum Engineering, and Li Mei, PhD candidate, attended the conference.
SPE Asia Pacific Regional Student Paper Contest includes levels of undergraduates, masters, and PhD. Each level only awards the first and the second place. A student from China University of Petroleum-Beijing won the second place of the PhD level in this contest.
To acquire the qualification for participation in SPE Asia Pacific Regional Student Paper Contest, competitors must go through a series of processes, including university audition, regional chapter recommendation, and contest committee review. All the qualified competitors of this contest come from 28 universities in 7 countries, including China, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
Li Mei, supervised by Prof. Guo Jianchun, represents SWPU and SPE Chengdu Chapter. In the contest, she presented her academic research titled Simulation of network fracturing in tight gas formation with coupled shear fracture propagation model, which stands out among others and won the first place of the PhD level.
